16MnDR steel welding properties and welding process
16MnDR steel has good weldability, but the following points need to be noted in the welding process:
1. Material preheating: Since 16MnDR steel is usually used for pressure vessels in low temperature environments, appropriate preheating measures are required during welding. Preheating can reduce welding stress and avoid cold cracks. Under normal circumstances, the preheating temperature is 150-250 degrees Celsius.
2. Select the right welding material: Select the welding material that matches the 16MnDR steel to ensure that the strength and corrosion resistance of the weld is comparable to that of the substrate. Common welding materials include E7018 electrode and ER70S-6 wire.
3. Control welding parameters: When welding, it is necessary to reasonably control welding current, voltage, welding speed and other parameters. Too high welding temperature may lead to denaturation and embrittlement of the material, while too low temperature may lead to substandard weld quality.
4. Reasonable welding sequence: For the welding of large structures, an appropriate welding sequence should be adopted to control the generation of residual stress through segmented welding or multi-pass welding, and to ensure the quality of the weld.
5. Good post-welding heat treatment: After the welding is completed, proper post-welding heat treatment can further eliminate residual stress and improve the performance of the weld. Common post-welding heat treatment methods include tempering and normalizing treatment.
In short, to obtain high quality welded joints, the welding of 16MnDR steel requires proper preheating, selection of suitable welding materials, control of welding parameters, welding in a reasonable welding sequence, and good post-welding heat treatment. These points help ensure the strength, toughness and corrosion resistance of welded joints.
