Production process of EN10025 S235JR steel
The production of EN10025 S235JR follows a well-established route. It starts with ironmaking in a blast furnace (BOF route) or scrap melting in an electric arc furnace (EAF). Both produce liquid steel with controlled carbon (around 0.17%) and manganese levels.
Next comes continuous casting, where molten steel solidifies into slabs or billets. These are reheated to 1100–1200°C and sent through a hot rolling mill. Multiple passes reduce thickness to final dimensions – plates, sheets, or sections. Rolling temperature and cooling rate determine final grain structure and mechanical properties.
After rolling, steel may undergo normalizing or simply air-cool, depending on thickness. Final steps include shearing, straightening, and surface inspection. Quality control checks tensile strength, yield point, and bend tests to ensure EN 10025 compliance.
S235JR is cost-effective because its production is optimized – no expensive alloys, just consistent process control.
